CAC 40 rose 0.7% to a 52-week high
The CAC 40 closed 0.69% higher on 6 August 2026 at 8,729.11 -- also its highest close of the past 52 weeks. The pack shows the index 0.0% below its 52-week high because the two figures are the same number: today's close is the high.
Every trend reading pointed the same way. The index sat above its 50-day moving average of 8377.57 and its 200-day average of 8197.09; a moving average is simply the running mean of recent closes, so trading above one means the index is above its own recent norm. It stood 14.04% above its 52-week low of 7654.25, and every return window in the pack was positive: 2.87% over a week, 5.77% over a month, 8.35% over three months and 7.11% for the year to date.
Peer markets do not share one timestamp, so they split into two groups. Among those whose latest close is also dated 6 August, Europe was quietly firm: the Euro Stoxx 50 added 0.61%, the DAX 0.27% and the FTSE 100 0.18%. Asia was mixed to weak -- the KOSPI fell 4.58%, the Hang Seng 1.49%, the Nikkei 0.93% and the TAIEX 0.48% -- against gains of 0.57% in Shanghai, 0.48% in the Sensex, 0.47% in the ASX 200 and 0.05% in the Nifty 50.
The three US benchmarks carry an earlier date, 5 August, so their moves belong to the prior session rather than this one: the S&P 500 slipped 0.17% and the Nasdaq 0.83%, while the Dow rose 0.49%.
The news list holds little dated to this session, and what it holds does not line up with the metrics. Two Investing.com headlines report France stocks higher at the close, one with the CAC 40 up 0.61% and the other up 0.03%; neither matches the 0.69% recorded here, so both describe other sessions. A marketscreener.com headline filed 19 hours ago says European markets hesitated while the CAC 40 kept setting records. From two days ago, Ideal Investisseur reports Kering dropping nearly 3% as the index's worst performer. The rest is stale: a livemint.com piece on a tariff warning is 199 days old, and a TradingView review of 2025 gainers is 219 days old.
The honest reading is narrow. The pack establishes that the CAC 40 gained and finished at a 52-week high while Europe rose and much of Asia fell on the same date. It does not establish why: no dated headline explains the 0.69% move, and the data shows no single obvious catalyst.
