Nasdaq rose 1.3%
The Nasdaq Composite ended its most recent session at 26,690.62, a gain of 1.3% and the largest one-day move among the three main US benchmarks in this pack. That close carries the date 7 August 2026.
Measured against its own year, the advance left the index 1.49% below its 52-week high of 27,093.90 and 28.35% above its 52-week low of 20,794.64 — near the upper end of the band it has traded in over the past twelve months. It also sat above both of the trend lines chartists watch most closely: a 50-day moving average of 25,941.68 and a 200-day average of 24,090.44, a moving average being simply the mean closing level across that many earlier sessions.
Stretching the window out, the composite was up 5.19% over the past week, 1.85% over a month and 3.43% over three months, with a year-to-date gain of 14.84%. The distance between the strong weekly figure and the flatter monthly one suggests much of the recent progress was concentrated into a short run of sessions rather than spread evenly.
Peer markets in the pack do not all share the same as-of date, so their moves read as each market's latest close rather than one synchronised global session. Dated 7 August alongside the Nasdaq: the S&P 500 up 0.62%, the Dow up 0.28%, the FTSE 100 up 0.31%, the DAX up 0.69%, the CAC 40 up 0.17% and the Euro Stoxx 50 up 0.33%; in Asia, Shanghai rose 1.02% and the Hang Seng 0.54%, while the TAIEX eased 0.38%, the Sensex 0.58% and the Nifty 50 0.27%. Three carry the later date of 10 August — the Nikkei up 1.38%, the KOSPI up 0.89% and the ASX 200 down 0.34%.
On the news side, a headline from TradingKey attributed the 1.3% close to cooling expectations of a Federal Reserve rate hike, and said memory stocks were sold off while software gained and SpaceX rose 15.83%. A CNBC headline separately described the Nasdaq 100 — a narrower gauge of the exchange's largest non-financial listings — as logging one of the past decade's top ten bullish readings, while an older headline from nbcnews.com had that same index sliding into correction on a global chip and memory sell-off. Each of those is a headline, not a verified account.
What this evidence establishes is the size of the move, where it leaves the index in its range, and how other markets last closed. What it does not establish is a driver: only one headline is flagged as fresh, and the rest span a stretch long enough to hold both a correction story and a rally one.
