Multi Commodity Exchange of India Ltd. (MCX) jumped +2.6% to ₹2,970.10 with 4 signals firing. Here is what the exchange data shows.

Multi Commodity Exchange of India ended the session at ₹2,970.10, up 2.59% from the previous close of ₹2,895.00, on a day the Nifty slipped 0.15%. Almost the entire gain was in place before regular trading began: the stock gapped up 2.42% at the open, then held a band from ₹2,880.10 to ₹2,987.90, finishing below the high. It closed 0.86% above its volume-weighted average price, so buyers had the better of the session, but the move was not pushed through to the day's high.

Turnover was heavy, and here the evidence contradicts itself. One screen flagged a volume spike of 27.0 times, while the relative-volume reading in the same pack is 3.18 times the recent norm. Both say the day was unusually busy, but the two magnitudes cannot both be right and nothing here resolves which to trust.

The futures footprint is stamped to the last close, not to this session. The classification is a long buildup, meaning fresh futures positions were opened while the price rose, with open interest up 1.26% against a price change of 4.79%. That 4.79% is not today's 2.59% move, precisely because the calculation is anchored to the earlier close: it says longs were being added into strength before the session, not what happened during it.

Institutional and insider activity is thin. No bulk or block deals were recorded on the day. The only one in the past 30 days was UTI Mutual Fund buying ₹425.01 crore of stock on 29 June, six weeks earlier, which cannot explain this week's gap. The insider-filing record for 60 days is present and empty, and the institutional-streak field is absent altogether.

Technically the stock sat on the strong side of every trend marker available: above both its 50-day and 200-day moving averages, through a Darvas box breakout, meeting the trend template, though no golden cross has registered. RSI was 64.1, firm but short of overbought. It remains 14.65% below its 52-week high and 103.32% above its 52-week low. The return split is the striking part: up 14.29% over the past week against 2.72% over the past month, so the whole month's advance arrived in the last few sessions.

Two news items are fresh. A report from NDTV Profit said SEBI has proposed widening foreign portfolio investor access to the commodities market, and a Business Today report canvassed views from Jefferies, Morgan Stanley and JPMorgan on the rise. Older entries include an Upstox report three days ago on a memorandum of understanding with the Jakarta Futures Exchange, and a Sahi report eight days ago that quarterly consolidated net profit rose to ₹413 crore from ₹203 crore a year earlier on revenue of ₹700 crore.

The data establishes the shape of the move, not its cause. The regulatory proposal reported today is the only same-day item that could plausibly account for a gap up in an exchange operator's stock, but only the headline is on record, with no detail and no company statement, leaving it an attributed report rather than a demonstrated driver.
