Nasdaq jumped 1.6%
The Nasdaq Composite jumped 1.57% on August 27 to close at 26,541.35, its strongest showing among the major US benchmarks that day. The advance built on a one-week gain of 1.82% and a one-month rise of 8.58%, though it remains 1.4% lower over three months.
At the close the index sat 2.04% below its 52-week high of 27,093.9 and 27.64% above its 52-week low of 20,794.64. It held above its 50-day average of 25,951.4 and its 200-day average of 24,301.32, keeping the longer-term uptrend intact; year to date it is up 14.2%.
US peers moved in the same direction in their August 27 close, with the S&P 500 up 0.72% and the Dow adding 0.2%. Across the globe, recent closes differed by session: Europe's FTSE 100 eased 0.07% and DAX rose 0.08% as of August 26, while Asia's Nikkei gained 0.31% and KOSPI rose 1.16% on August 28 — each its own most recent session.
The lift came from technology. According to a headline from TradingKey, the Nasdaq rose 1.6% as software and cybersecurity shares led and Nvidia climbed nearly 9% after earnings, while FXLeaders reported the index soared 1.5% on the Nvidia-driven rally.
The data ties the move squarely to a single engine — Nvidia's earnings — rather than broad participation. The Nasdaq sits close to its yearly peak, but whether the gain holds depends on whether the chip-led momentum carries into the next session, which the pack does not establish. Its 14.2% year-to-date gain underscores how much of 2026's advance has rested on the same megacap technology names.
