Nasdaq fell 0.5%
The Nasdaq Composite slipped on 28 August, closing at 26,402.42, down 0.52% for the session. The dip left the index 2.55% below its 52-week high of 27,093.9 and 26.97% above its 52-week low of 20,794.64, so it is still hovering near the top of its yearly range even after the soft day.
The pullback was modest against the index's recent run. It remains up 0.85% on the week, 5.1% over the month and 13.6% year to date, though it is down 2.11% over the past three months. Technically the composite holds above both its 50-day average of 25,959.02 and its 200-day average of 24,315.7, so the longer-term trend line is still intact.
Among the other US benchmarks for the same 28 August close, the S&P 500 eased 0.25% and the Dow was little changed at -0.02%. The overseas closes carried different dates: for the 27 August session, London's FTSE 100 fell 0.79%, Frankfurt's DAX rose 0.31% and Paris's CAC 40 dropped 1.68%, while in Asia Shanghai gained 1.13%, South Korea's KOSPI added 1.53% and Hong Kong's Hang Seng eased 0.34%. The dates do not line up with the Nasdaq's session, so these are each market's most recent close rather than a same-day move.
The news flow offered context but no confirmed catalyst for the day's decline. According to a headline from Investor's Business Daily, markets were bracing for a Warsh speech with Marvell, Affirm and PayPal among the big movers, and BNN Bloomberg reported US stock markets broadly lower. A separate headline from FXLeaders described a 1.5% surge in the index a day earlier as NVIDIA sparked a tech rally.
The data does not establish a single driver for the 0.52% fall; it shows a minor cooling after a strong month, with the index still sitting close to its 52-week peak and above its key moving averages. What the figures confirm is positioning near the top of the range, not a break in the trend.
