INFY jumped +4.1% on at day's high
Infosys closed at ₹1,035, up 4.11% from the previous close of ₹994.1, and finished the session exactly at its day's high. The stock opened with a 1.6% gap, never filled it, and traded no lower than ₹999.15 all day. That came against a falling market: the Nifty lost 0.88%, so the IT major outran the benchmark by a wide margin on a red day.
Volume is where the pack contradicts itself. The live signals flag a volume spike of 17.8x, while the technicals block records relative volume, or rvol, of 1.72 times normal. Both cannot describe the same window, and the technicals may be stamped to an earlier close. Participation was above average; how far above is not settled here. The stock also ended 1.88% above VWAP, the volume-weighted average price, so buyers kept paying up through the session.
The pack carries no futures-and-options positioning, so it cannot show whether the rise came with fresh longs or short covering. Insider filings over the last 60 days are empty. The institutional deals listed date from June 29 and June 24, far outside a recent window, and neither is accumulation. On June 29 one fund sold and another entity bought the same ₹53.23 crore, a matched transfer. On June 24 two accounts under one pension-fund trustee sold and bought ₹63.11 crore, netting to zero.
The technical backdrop stays weak despite the jump. Infosys sits 40.1% below its 52-week high and only 5.57% above its 52-week low, below both its 50-day and 200-day moving averages. RSI, a 0-100 momentum gauge, reads 44.9, neutral territory. The stock is up about 2% over the past week but down 9.2% over the month. A MarketsMojo headline from two days ago reported a 52-week low of Rs 983.1 as selling deepened, so this session was a rebound from near that level.
The most relevant headline came from NDTV Profit about six hours before the wrap, reporting that IT stocks including TCS, Infosys, Coforge and Persistent Systems rose by up to 3%. Infosys ended above that figure, so the report likely caught the move mid-session. A Stock Titan item from about a day earlier said a Dutch bank expects Infosys to help cut its operating costs as it widens AI use. A day-old Business Today piece asked whether large IT firms face their weakest Q2 results in 3 years. Other headlines, on bonus issuers and on Accenture, are not specific to Infosys.
What the data establishes is a sector-wide IT rally, reported by NDTV Profit, that Infosys led on a day the Nifty fell, closing at the high after a held gap. It does not establish a single driver. The Dutch bank report is the only company-specific item, and it is a day old and attributed rather than confirmed. Without F&O data or recent block deals, who did the buying remains unknown.
