Nasdaq Composite closed at 27,190.86 on 2026-10-02, rose 1.2% on the session and is +17.0% year-to-date. Here is what the market data shows.

The Nasdaq Composite rose 1.19 per cent to close at 27,190.86 on Friday, a level just 0.2 per cent short of its 52-week high of 27,244.28 and 30.76 per cent above its 52-week low of 20,794.64. The index finished the session above both its 50-day average of 26,306.47 and its 200-day average of 24,729.59.

The week was only marginally positive: the index added 0.45 per cent across the five sessions. It is 3.71 per cent higher over the past month, 4.1 per cent up over three months and 16.99 per cent higher so far this year.

Peer markets were mostly higher, with dates that differ between regions. In the same October 2 session as the Nasdaq, the S&P 500 rose 0.73 per cent and the Dow 0.49 per cent. The European closes carrying that date were also up: the DAX added 1.17 per cent, the Euro Stoxx 50 1.02 per cent, the CAC 40 0.79 per cent and the FTSE 100 0.32 per cent. The Nikkei's most recent close, dated October 5, was up 2.27 per cent, and the ASX 200 rose 0.44 per cent on the same date. Elsewhere in Asia, the Hang Seng fell 2.6 per cent on October 2, while the KOSPI and the TAIEX added 0.46 per cent and 0.25 per cent. India's Sensex and Nifty 50, on their October 1 close, fell 0.79 per cent and 0.88 per cent.

On the news, Investing.com reported that Moderna is set to join the Nasdaq-100 index on October 9, replacing Warner Bros. An Investopedia piece examined the stocks driving the index, a Motley Fool report described broad index gains after inflation data with the Dow not joining, and a Benzinga note looked ahead to the next session's futures.

What the data does not establish is a single driver for Friday's move. It records the closing level, where the index sits in its range, the returns over several horizons and how peers closed, but no index-level cause.
