GODREJCP plunged -11.2% on volume spike 30.2x
Godrej Consumer Products ended the 12 August session at ₹910, down 11.22% from the previous close of ₹1,025. The damage was done at the open: the stock gapped 10% lower and then drifted further rather than repairing it, with a high of ₹951.8, a low of ₹907.8 and a close within a couple of rupees of that low. The Nifty fell 0.15% the same day, so almost none of this was the broader market.
Volume was the other extreme, and the pack's two measures of it disagree slightly — one signal read a spike of 30.2 times normal, the relative-volume field 32.37 times — but both describe participation many multiples of an ordinary day. The close was 1.48% below the volume-weighted average price, meaning the average trade of the session happened above the closing level and sellers held the second half. The "gap-and-hold" tag noted only that the -10.0% opening gap survived to the close; the final loss was wider still.
How derivatives traders positioned is not in the record: the futures-and-options field was null, missing rather than empty, so there is no long-buildup or unwinding reading to report (long buildup being fresh futures positions opened as a price rises). The cash-market lists, by contrast, were empty records rather than absent ones — no bulk or block deal today, none in the previous 30 days, no insider filing in 60 days, no institutional streak on file. The selling cannot be traced to any disclosed transaction; it went through the open market anonymously.
The technical picture was uniformly weak. The 14-day RSI, a momentum gauge scaled 0 to 100, stood at 22.9, deep in what chart-watchers call oversold. The stock closed below both its 50-day and 200-day moving averages, 30.48% under its 52-week high and only 0.24% above its 52-week low. It was down 14.87% over the past week and 14.28% over the past month, so a single session accounted for most of both.
The headlines pointed one way. A Reuters report said the company named Malbari chief executive as Sitapati exited months after being reappointed; a later Reuters piece said the stock hit a three-year low as the abrupt exit raised leadership concerns. The Economic Times reported that HSBC cut its rating to Hold, and NDTV Profit reported brokerages flagging an overhang. A scanx.trade report four days earlier noted a ₹5 interim dividend with a record date of 13 August, a sum the day's move dwarfed.
So a driver is visible, but as a report rather than a fact established here, and the market-structure data adds no second one: a gap, extraordinary volume, a close near the low, and no disclosed institutional hand anywhere in the record. Nothing in the pack speaks to the business itself beyond a four-day-old summary of a Q1 earnings call.
