GST Calculator
Add GST to a price or take it out of a GST-inclusive price, with the CGST, SGST and IGST split, at the rates in force since 22 September 2025.
To add GST, multiply the price by the rate: ₹1,000 plus 18% GST is ₹1,180. To take GST out of an inclusive price, divide by 1 plus the rate: ₹1,180 including 18% GST is ₹1,000 plus ₹180 of GST. Since 22 September 2025 most goods and services are taxed at 5% or 18%, with 40% on a short list of luxury and sin goods.
The words on this page, explained simply
New to this? Here is what each term means, in plain English.
- GST (goods and services tax)
- The tax added to the price of goods and services in India. Most things are taxed at 5% or 18% since 22 September 2025.
- GST-inclusive price
- A price that already has GST inside it, like the price on a shop shelf. To find the price before tax, divide by 1 plus the rate: ₹1,180 ÷ 1.18 = ₹1,000.
- CGST and SGST
- When you buy from a seller in your own state, GST is split in two equal halves: CGST goes to the central government and SGST to the state. 18% GST is 9% + 9%.
- IGST
- When the seller is in another state, the whole GST is charged as one tax, IGST. The total is the same as CGST plus SGST.
GST (goods and services tax) is added to the price of almost everything sold in India. Within a state it is split equally into CGST (to the Centre) and SGST (to the state); on a sale from one state to another it is charged as a single IGST.
The formulas
Adding GST: GST = price × rate ÷ 100, and the total is the price plus GST.
Removing GST from an inclusive price: price before GST = inclusive price ÷ (1 + rate ÷ 100), and GST is the difference. Taking 18% off ₹1,180 gives ₹1,180 − ₹212.40 = ₹967.60, which is wrong; dividing by 1.18 gives the right ₹1,000.
