Daily NIFTY Midcap 100 open, high, low and close from NSE’s end-of-day index file, updated after each session (no intraday bars). Volume is the index constituents’ traded shares where NSE publishes it. Charts by TradingView Lightweight Charts™ © TradingView, Inc.
SEBI classifies the 100 largest listed companies as large caps, the next 150 as mid caps and the rest as small caps. The Nifty Midcap 100 holds 100 companies from that mid-cap band, weighted by free-float market capitalisation: established businesses that are often leaders in narrower markets, and the companies most likely to grow into tomorrow's large caps.
Mid caps have historically moved further than large caps in both directions, which shows up in the returns table and in the gap between the 52-week high and low. Everything comes from exchange files: the index level, P/E, P/B and dividend yield from NSE's end-of-day index file, the constituent list from NSE's own constituent file, open interest from the F&O bhavcopy, delivery from the security-wise delivery file and deals from NSE's bulk and block deal disclosures. Live prices refresh through the trading day.
Valuation matters more in mid caps
Mid-cap indices usually trade at a higher P/E than the Nifty 50, because investors pay up for faster expected growth, and that premium widens and narrows over the cycle. The valuation line on this page places today's P/E within the index's own past year; a P/E near the top of its range means more of the expected growth is already in the price.
The data here joins the index's history across the names NSE has used for it (CNX Midcap, Nifty Midcap 100 and Nifty Free Float Midcap 100) into one series since 2012.
Key takeaways
- 100 companies from the mid-cap band (roughly ranks 101 to 250).
- Bigger swings than large caps, both up and down.
- Usually a P/E premium to the Nifty 50.
