EPF Calculator
Your EPF balance at retirement at the 8.25% rate, split into your share, the employer's share and interest, with an EPS pension estimate.
On a ₹30,000 basic + DA rising 6% a year, EPF from age 25 to 58 at 8.25% builds a corpus of about ₹2.49 crore. The rate is 8.25% for FY 2025-26. The calculator splits your share, the employer's EPF share and the EPS pension contribution, and estimates the EPS pension.
Every month 12% of your basic salary plus dearness allowance goes into your EPF account, and your employer adds 12%. Of the employer's 12%, 8.33% of the wage up to ₹15,000 (at most ₹1,250 a month) goes to the Employees' Pension Scheme (EPS), which pays a pension later; the rest goes to your EPF account.
How EPF interest is calculated
Interest is calculated every month on the running balance at the yearly rate ÷ 12 and credited once a year. The rate is declared each year by EPFO: 8.25% for FY 2025-26. Contributions made during the year earn interest from the month they are credited.
Corpus for different salaries
30 years of contributions, salary rising 6% a year, 8.25% interest, EPS member, PF on actual basic + DA:
| Starting basic + DA | EPF corpus after 30 years |
|---|---|
| ₹15,000 | ₹82.01 lakh |
| ₹25,000 | ₹1.49 crore |
| ₹50,000 | ₹3.16 crore |
| ₹1,00,000 | ₹6.51 crore |
EPS pension
EPS pension = pensionable salary × pensionable service ÷ 70. Pensionable salary is the average wage of the last 60 months, capped at ₹15,000; service of 20 years or more gets 2 bonus years. You need 10 years of service for a pension, which starts at 58 (a reduced pension is available from 50). At the cap, 35 years of service gives ₹15,000 × 35 ÷ 70 = ₹7,500 a month. The minimum pension is ₹1,000.
Employees who joined after 1 September 2014 with basic + DA above ₹15,000 are not EPS members; the employer's full 12% then goes to EPF. Higher-pension options under the 2022 Supreme Court ruling are not modelled.
Tax on EPF
Your contribution qualifies for section 80C in the old regime. Interest on your own contributions above ₹2.5 lakh a year (₹5 lakh if your employer does not contribute) is taxable. Withdrawals after 5 years of continuous service are tax-free; earlier ones can be taxed and have TDS.
Voluntary PF (VPF)
You can contribute more than 12% as VPF; it earns the EPF rate. Raise 'your contribution' in the calculator to see the effect, keeping the ₹2.5 lakh tax threshold in mind.
