EPF Pension (EPS) Calculator

Your monthly pension from the Employees' Pension Scheme (EPS 2026, which replaced EPS-95), worked out the way the scheme does: each part of your service at the wage ceiling of its time (₹5,000, ₹6,500, ₹15,000, ₹25,000), with the bonus years, early pension from 50 and deferral to 60.

In short

EPS pension = pensionable salary × pensionable service ÷ 70, worked out separately for each wage-ceiling period. Someone who joined in April 2005 and retires at 58 in March 2034 on an average ₹40,000 gets about ₹6,862 a month. You need at least 10 years of service; the minimum pension is ₹1,000.

The words on this page, explained simply

New to this? Here is what each term means, in plain English.

EPS (Employees' Pension Scheme)
The pension part of PF. Up to ₹2,083 a month of your employer's share (₹1,250 before 17 September 2026) goes here instead of your EPF account, and pays a monthly pension from 58 if you served at least 10 years. People who joined after September 2014 above the wage ceiling are not members.
Pensionable salary
For EPS, the average monthly wage of your last 60 months. It is capped by period: ₹5,000 to May 2001, ₹6,500 to August 2014, ₹15,000 to 16 September 2026, ₹25,000 after.
Pensionable service
The years you were an EPS member. Members with 20 years or more get 2 extra years added.
Early pension
Taking the EPS pension between 50 and 58. It is 4% smaller for every year before 58, for life.
EPF (Employees' Provident Fund)
Retirement savings taken from your salary. You and your employer each put in money every month, and it earns an interest rate EPFO declares every year.

Part of your employer's PF contribution, 8.33% of the wage up to the ceiling, goes to the Employees' Pension Scheme (EPS), not your EPF balance. The ceiling has been ₹25,000 since 17 September 2026 (₹15,000 before), so up to ₹2,083 a month goes in. EPS pays a monthly pension for life from 58, worked out from your salary and years of service, not from the money paid in.

The formula

Monthly pension = pensionable wages × pensionable service ÷ 70 (Employees' Pension Scheme, 2026, paragraph 12(2)). The 2026 Scheme (G.S.R. 527(E), 29 June 2026) replaced EPS-95; the formula is the same. Pensionable wages are your average monthly basic + DA over the 60 months before you leave, worked out pro rata for every wage ceiling period, each capped at the ceiling that applied then (paragraphs 11(1) and 12(2)): ₹5,000 for service to 31 May 2001, ₹6,500 to 31 August 2014, ₹15,000 to 16 September 2026, and ₹25,000 after that, when the ceiling was raised (S.O. 5109(E)).

EPS-95 as amended in 2014 counted all service before 1 September 2014 at up to ₹6,500. The 2026 wording, every wage ceiling period at its own ceiling, puts service before June 2001 at up to ₹5,000, and the calculator follows it. If EPFO keeps the old treatment, the calculator shows how much that adds.

Service is rounded to whole years, six months or more counting as a year, and you need at least 10 (paragraph 9). If you are still working at 58, the age of superannuation (Code on Social Security, section 2(82)), with 20 years or more, 2 years are added (paragraph 10(2)).

Joined Apr 2015, leaves at 45 in Mar 2032, pension from 58, pay ₹20,00017₹4,038

Early and deferred pension

You can take the pension from 50 once you have left work: it is 4% less for every year short of 58, for life (paragraph 12(7)). If you are still working at 58 you can defer it to 59 or 60 and get 4% more for each year (paragraph 12(9)). The minimum pension of ₹1,000 is itself reduced for an early pension (paragraph 12(8)).

What this does not cover

Higher pension on actual salary (the 2022 Supreme Court option) needs EPFO's own approval and calculation; the calculator can show the formula on your actual salary but EPFO's figure governs. Service before 16 November 1995 under the old Family Pension Scheme, and widow, child and orphan pensions, are not modelled. EPFO works from exact days of contribution, so its figure can differ by a few rupees.

From 17 September 2026 the calculator counts salary up to ₹25,000, matching the higher contributions EPFO now collects, as paragraph 12(2) requires for each wage ceiling period.

Key takeaways

Frequently asked questions

How much pension will I get from EPF after retirement?

From EPS: pensionable salary × service ÷ 70, pro rata by wage-ceiling period. Joining in April 2005 and retiring at 58 in March 2034 on an average ₹40,000 gives about ₹6,862 a month.

Has the EPS wage ceiling changed?

Yes. It was raised from ₹15,000 to ₹25,000 a month from 17 September 2026, so the employer's EPS contribution can now be up to ₹2,083 a month. Service before that date is still counted at the old ceilings.

Can I get EPS pension before 58?

From 50, if you have left work and have 10 years of service. It is reduced by 4% for each year below 58, for life.

Do I get 2 bonus years?

Only if you are still in service at 58 and have 20 years or more of pensionable service.

What is the minimum EPS pension?

₹1,000 a month, reduced for an early pension.
